Topkapi Palace Area (Click on pictures for enlargement)
The Topkapi Palace is the oldest and largest of the remaining palaces in the world. It was converted to a museum in 1924. The palace is located on the acropolis of Byzantium. It is overlooking the Golden Horn, the Bosphorus and the Sea of Marmara. The palace walls are about 3 miles in circumference. It's a long walk from the Imperial Gate to the entrance to the palace area.

There are a lot of buildings inside the palace area. Each building a specific use and quite frankly I got confused between my notes and pictures because the area is so huge.
The Gate of Felicity or Gate of the White Eunuchs
This is the area of the third courtyard. There are many displays of items from the Ottoman Empire. The Treasury's valuable collection includes the Topkapi dagger. This dagger has thousands of precious and semiprecious stones. We pose together inside the Topkapi Palace and then below at Seraglio Point. We had lunch at the famous Konyali Restaurant inside the palace area. The restaurant has excellent food and an outstanding view of the Sea of Marmara.
Istanbul is an extremely beautiful and charming city. We were impressed by the kind people that we met. The city is a really memorable place. e-mail: mikeclay@virtualtravels.com ©mikeclay.com, 2000©rememberme.com, 2000
