Rome Pilgrimage-Trip Itinerary

Mar 18 (Th)         depart NOBTS campus at 10am for a 1:30pm flight on Delta  1050 to Atlanta connecting with Delta 70 departing Atlanta at 5:45pm

Mar 19 (Fr)         arrive Rome on Delta 70 at 9:10am, clear customs and transfer to the hotel.  We will have lunch and connect with Carla, our outstanding Roman guide at approximately 2pm for an overview of Rome.  We will travel by Metro to the Spanish Steps, walk to the Trevi Fountain, Piazza Navona, on to Piazza Venezia and bus back to the hotel.  Learning the public transportation system really opens up your opportunities to travel freely around Rome.  After returning to the hotel we will have time to learn our neighborhood and of course some of that superb Italian coffee.  Dr. Dukes will begin our devotional study this evening. 

Mar 20 (Sa)         Christian Rome today.  During the AM we will be visiting S. Clemente, St. Peter’s in Chains (Michelangelo’s Moses), St. Mary Major and a couple of other small churches.  After lunch we will visit the Catacombs, St. John Lateran and the Holy Steps.    

Mar 21 (Su)         Ancient Rome, visiting the Forum, Palatine Hill and Colosseum and possibly if time permits the Pantheon. 

Mar 22 (Mo)        Rome through the Ages, or the Hidden Corners of Rome, including small Piazzas, corners of the old Jewish Ghetto and across to Trestevere.  Rome through the ages

Mar 23 (Tu)         We will design this day in Rome.  Dr. Warren and his students will plan for their day to facilitate their study.  We will have a good understanding of Rome by this time and will discuss with Carla what we will do on this day.  Some suggestions are the Basilica of St. Paul, Sanctuary of the Three Fountains which is the possible place of Paul’s martyrdom, and a walk through the avant-garde Eur district built in the 1930s/1940s to celebrate Mussolini’s regime.  We will also allow for some free time in the afternoon for shopping. 

Mar 24 (We)        We will be at the Vatican most of this day.  Early visit to the Vatican Museum, audience with the Pope, “behind the scenes” visit at the Vatican (arranged by Don Richard), and hopefully a visit to the Catacombs under St. Peter’s.  This is not approved yet but we hope that it will be.

Mar 25 (Th)         depart hotel at 6:45am for a 10:15am flight on Delta 71 from Rome arriving in Atlanta at 3:40pm, departing Atlanta on Delta 1816 at 5:45pm arriving in New Orleans at 6:23pm
