ANOTHER DAY IN ROME
Another day in Rome
I’ve walked everywhere
My feet are killing me
In my walk
Was history
St. Peter’s to the Colosseum
A grand street to Tiber
Ending at Castel St. Angelo
People all around
Up the Tiber
In the sun
Across to Navona and lunch
What a meal
Amidst the crowd
Statutes looking on
Lolling thru the alleys
Stopping at Tasso d’Ore
Reaching the Corso of Rome
Umilta was found
We walked around
Three coins in Trevi’s Fountain
People everywhere
The traffic didn’t care
As we walked the Imperial Road
By the Colosseum
Up to San Clemente
Seven hours passed and we are home

WORKING THRU
Working thru our actions
Seeking what to do
Following Jesus
Will let your service be true
Struggling with our message
Writing out our plan
Things we say and do
Should lead others to You
How can I best serve?
Only where I am
Dreaming only futures
Forgets about man
Jesus saves people
Giving them light
All the love Christ gives us
Enables us to fight
The fight is for focus
Off the enemy’s ruse
God will fight our battles
If our heart is true
True to our confession
Faithful day by day
Filled with obedience
Serving Jesus’ way

HEADING FOR ROME
Early morning light
Foggy mind
Excited heart
Heading for Rome
All have come
To travel Rome
To get to know
Paul’s second home
Busy streets
Crowded walks
Everywhere is history
Open to our eyes
Carla comes to help us see
Pointing out and explaining
Paul was here proclaiming
Jesus death and resurrection
All the wealth
And power to own
And Paul claimed
This place for God
Around the world
Paul’s letters went
Soon he died at Rome’s feet
Jesus brought Rome to its knees
Paul and Peter and Luke
Wrote what Christ could do
Those Words from God
Speaking to me and you
Christ intended us to know
Where we stood and how to grow
Now we arrive in Rome
To see this place early Christian’s called home

IN ROME
Weary bones
Hungry eyes
As we discovered Rome
All ahead
Flight behind
What would my week hold?
I want to know more about Jesus
More of what drove Paul and Peter
To walk to their death
Praising and glorifying the Lord
The world ruled
With a Roman hand
Christians were charred
And Christianity spread
I want to know about big cities
Majestic cities of old
Stone cold and powerful
With a wealth that turned to dust
I want to see the ancients
To hear about their lives
And see their work
What can I use today?
I want to try the food
Smell the smells
And walk all their streets
I want to build this journey
Into a masterpiece
That I can filter and relish
For many years to come
And I want to see Jesus
And listen as He speaks
Of His love for me

HOLY ONE
I am a Holy One of God
Saved by Jesus gift
He says I am Holy
And I can trust Him
I am beloved by God
Faithful by His strength
He says so
And I can trust Him
I have all things in Christ
Worth and a valuable life
He says so
And I can trust Him
I have grace and peace
Sent by my Lord
He says so
And I can trust Him

THINKING OF
I’m thinking of you Rick
I wish you could have come
Rome is a joy for each of us
Buses full to bursting
Speeding around the town
Cramming in more people abounds
The joys of deliberate strolls
Walking by buildings 2,000 years old
And feeling all these Roman ghosts
Will make your skin tingle
Seeing where Paul suffered
Knowing Peter and Luke were scared
Helps me see your courage
To be where God called you
The food is fabulous
I eat too much
But we’re walking five miles plus
So I shouldn’t balloon up
It is a real celebration
Studying Ephesians
Seeing Paul’s profession of Christ
And knowing he was true
Rick we miss your laughter
And the insights you’ve learned
You are God’s servant
In you we see God’s son

HEARING ME
Praise God for hearing me
I cried out in a plea
He changed me
And met my need
Praise God for using me
I wanted worth
He assigned me work
And I learned I was important
Praise God for loving me
Gave me the gift of relationship
Jesus died for me
And I received salvation
Praise God for forgiving me
I’m so forgetful and foolish
Every thought God has for me is good
And I was encouraged
Praise God with what I say
He is hearing me
As I work from my heart
Christ will see me home

BEAUTY
Beauty comes in many cloaks
Fashioned from the mind
Energy expressed in time
Seldom do we realize
Beauty is dictated
By societies eyes
It is important to understand
That beauty is within
Valuing everyone
Dealing with our wisdom
To know that people count
Expressed by our actions of service
Beauty is an action
It takes pain to care
And will to share
Everyday is a challenge
To turn inward and ignore
He will help me care
When I’m faced with choices
Jesus looses me to face the day
And live life with beauty, God’s way

ALL DAY
Churches all day
Ornate and plain
Built on the foundation
Of martyrs’ in Jesus name
People count with God
Religion counts itself
Property and gold
Replace a Holy God
All groups are guilty
It’s easy to stray
Counterfeit Christianity
Rules our day
Tired feet again
Cobblestones and steps
We rode to the catacombs
To reconnect our thoughts
Today martyrs still die
More than ever before
I want to live
To serve Jesus Christ
Service is uncomfortable
It costs me time and faith
To believe in Jesus
And tell about His fame

MY ROME
A very good day
Walking in Rome
Seeing where Christianity
Flourished and made its home
Looking at the ancients
Hearing their views
What happened?
Why did we change our views?
The world is in a hurry
We slowed it down
Underscored the value
Of God’s people here in Rome
Bill Warren was our rudder
As our scholars shared
Giving us enough
To understand those now dead
Sharing all their whys and hows
It magnified our view
Carla kept us together
We saw God’s world anew
Our students have discovered
Physical remains
It’s easy to criticize the unknown
Now we know much more of Rome
I want to thank our travelers
What a job they’ve done
Everyone working together
Exemplifying God’s son
Jimmy Dukes expounding
Paul’s words from Rome
Encouraging each one of us
To think and grow
Friends and family
Blessing each and all
Don’t forget the food
And our casual talks
I want to do better
I want to be used
Thank you for traveling with us
Our Rome adventure is better because of you
