GREECE-IN THE FOOTSTEP'S OF PAUL
DEVOTIONAL GUIDE-PREPARING FOR THE TRIP
MARCH 22-30, 2007

DATE SCRIPTURE COMMENT & PRAYER
30-Jan Ac 16:9 A vision appeared to Paul in the night: a man of Macedonia was standing and appealing to him, and saying, "Come over to Macedonia and help us."  Beginnings are important.  The Lord calls us to Christ like living.  We may not have achieved what the Lord calls us to but every day we move forward.  Purpose to pray about our Greece pilgrimage each day.
31-Jan  Ac 16:10 So we decided to leave for Macedonia at once, for we could only conclude that God was calling us to preach the Good News there.  Jesus called Paul to preach the Gospel.  We follow in Paul's footsteps to see what he did.  What a marvelous blessing the Gospel message is to all of mankind.
1-Feb Ac 16:11 So putting out to sea from Troas, we ran a straight course to Samothrace, and on the day following to Neapolis;  Standing in the harbor at Neapolis (Kavala) we will stand right where Paul landed.  Unknown, without power, Paul begin the westward push of the Gospel that reached me.
2-Feb Ac 16:12 and from there to Philippi, which is a leading city of the district of Macedonia, a Roman colony; and we were staying in this city for some days.  The Lord knows everything I do.  He is interested in all of the activities of my life.  Lord order our steps, keep us safe and protect our loved ones while we are away.
3-Feb Ac 16:13 And on the Sabbath day we went outside the gate to a riverside, where we were supposing that there would be a place of prayer; and we sat down and began speaking to the women who had assembled.  Strength is found in surrender to Jesus.  In Christ I can accomplish the Lord's plan for my life.  Today I am praying for our travel in Greece, that each person will have a safe and good experience on this pilgrimage.  Lord open my eyes.
4-Feb Ac 16:14 A woman named Lydia, from the city of Thyatira, a seller of purple fabrics, a worshiper of God, was listening; and the Lord opened her heart to respond to the things spoken by Paul.  The westward push of the Gospel began with the weak.  Our privilege is to stand in the presence of the Lord Jesus and ask Him to order our lives.  Forgive me Lord when I think that the things I do for you are unimportant.
5-Feb Ac 16:15 And when she and her household had been baptized, she urged us, saying, "If you have judged me to be faithful to the Lord, come into my house and stay." And she prevailed upon us. Do what Jesus says.  Be the person the Lord has called you to be.  Don't look to your neighbor but instead build a personal relationship with Jesus.  The Lord loves you.  Pray for our days in Athens.
6-Feb Ac 16:20 and when they had brought them to the chief magistrates, they said, "These men are throwing our city into confusion, being Jews,  Salt and light was the charge against Paul and the early Christians.  Am I being salt and light?  How can I become the salt and light the Lord has called me to be?
7-Feb Ac 16:23 When they had struck them with many blows, they threw them into prison, commanding the jailer to guard them securely; Suffering for their faith Paul and his followers grew in their faithfulness.  I will see the prison and walk the streets in Philippi.  Lord help me to grow in my faith.
8-Feb Ac 16:24 and he, having received such a command, threw them into the inner prison and fastened their feet in the stocks. Suffering is alien to most of us.  We do not live in fear of our lives or profession because of our faith.  Early Christians did.  What is the Lord calling me to do in light of this?
9-Feb Ac 16:25 But about midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns of praise to God, and the prisoners were listening to them;  What is my response to difficulty?  Do I consistently turn to the Lord and praise Him?  Paul did.  This may be something I should take note of and learn.
10-Feb Ac 16:27-28 When the jailer awoke and saw the prison doors opened, he drew his sword and was about to kill himself, supposing that the prisoners had escaped.  But Paul cried out with a loud voice, saying, "Do not harm yourself, for we are all here!"  What is my response to those that mistreat me?  Jesus calls me to love those who hate me and pray for those who mistreat me.  I am praying today for my detractors and difficult people.  Help me to be an encourager.
11-Feb Ac 16:30-31 and after he brought them out, he said, "Sirs, what must I do to be saved?"  They said, "Believe in the Lord Jesus, and you will be saved, you and your household."  Salvation is a choice.  God is looking for me and I can choose to receive Him.  I have done this.  The recognition and proclamtion of my salvation is a part of my daily walk.
12-Feb Ac 17:1 Now when they had traveled through Amphipolis and Apollonia, they came to Thessalonica, where there was a synagogue of the Jews.  Paul was single focused in his presentation of the Gospel.  He proclaimed Christ as Lord everywhere he went.
13-Feb Ac 17:2-3 And according to Paul's custom, he went to them, and for three Sabbaths reasoned with them from the Scriptures, explaining and giving evidence that the Christ had to suffer and rise again from the dead, and saying, "This Jesus whom I am proclaiming to you is the Christ."  I am praying for the people that we meet in Greece on our trip, our guide, bus driver and any opportunity I get to speak about Jesus.  Paul was equipped to talk about the Lord from first hand experience.  I want to know you better Lord.
14-Feb Ac 17:10 The brethren immediately sent Paul and Silas away by night to Berea, and when they arrived, they went into the synagogue of the Jews. Wise as serpents and harmless as doves.  Help me Lord to grow in wisdom, mercy and grace.
15-Feb Gal 1:1-2  Paul, an apostle (not sent from men nor through the agency of man, but through Jesus Christ and God the Father, who raised Him from the dead),  and all the brethren who are with me, To the churches of Galatia: I am praying for the people in the USA, especially those in Atlanta and New Orleans.  That they might hear the Gospel and respond.  Help me to respond to you today Jesus that I might serve you better.
16-Feb Gal 1:3 Grace to you and peace from God  our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ, I need all that the Lord has for me.  Peace is in short supply in the world, Lord give me peace.
17-Feb Gal 1:4 who gave Himself for our sins so that He might rescue us from this present evil age, according to the will of our God and Father, All of mankind struggles with rebellion.  Man's first inclination is to recoil from the Lord.  Lord help me to seek you and to surrender my will to yours.
18-Feb Gal 2:19"For through the Law I died to the Law, so that I might live to God. Lord the world is so real and seeks to make me "work" for my salvation.  Help me to see Your grace in new and powerful ways on our pilgrimage.
19-Feb Gal 2:20 "I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me. This idea of the crucified life is so foreign to us today.  Help me Lord to renew my efforts to serve.  Lord help me respond to others the way Jesus responded to me.  I'm praying for our hotels today, that they will be enjoyable.
20-Feb Gal 3:2 This is the only thing I want to find out from you: did you receive the Spirit by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? Lord I trust you.  I trust you on this pilgrimage, I trust you with my family, I trust you with my future, I trust you Lord.  Help me to be trustworthy.
21-Feb Gal 3:5 So then, does He who provides you with the Spirit and works miracles among you, do it by the works of the Law, or by hearing with faith? Trust is developed step by step.  There are 7,000 plus promises in the Bible made to me.  Help me Lord as I claim my promises.
22-Feb Gal 3:16 Now the promises were spoken to Abraham and to his seed. He does not say, "And to seeds," as referring to many, but rather to one, "And to your seed," that is, Christ. Lord I want to see your great work in mankind.  I pray that this pilgrimage will open my eyes to your activity and concern for others and for me.
23-Feb Gal 3:26 For you are all sons of God through faith in Christ Jesus. A child of God.  Father I love you today.  Help me love your other children.
24-Feb Gal 5:1 It was for freedom that Christ set us free; therefore keep standing firm and do not be subject again to a yoke of slavery. As a child of God I can choose not to sin.  Help me today Lord as I make choices.  Help me to make the next right choice.
25-Feb Ep 1:5 He  predestined us to adoption as sons through Jesus Christ to Himself, according to the kind intention of His will,  The Lord is good to me.  Today I count my blessings.  Use my blessings to strengthen me.
26-Feb Ep 1:3 Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ, In Jesus I have what I need, strength, wisdom, encouragement and so on.  Help me Lord to claim my resources.
27-Feb Ep 1:7 In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace  I have victory.  This world is not my home and I am not alone.  Jesus is Lord.
28-Feb Ep 1:22 And He put all things in subjection under His feet, and gave Him as head over all things to the church,  The world is looking for winners.  In Jesus I am a winner.  Help me to live today Lord as a victor and not a victim.  Rejoice today is the Lord's.
1-Mar Ep 2:3 3 Among them we too all formerly lived in the lusts of our flesh, indulging the desires of the flesh and of the mind, and were by nature children of wrath, even as the rest. Every step Paul took on the road to Philippi was a step further from places he knew.  This pilgrimage is a journey for me to places I don't know.  I am praying for the lost today.
2-Mar Ep 2:4-5 But God, being rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in our transgressions, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved) Salvation is a wonderful gift, thank you Lord.  Today I am praying for NOBTS, its students, staff and faculty.  I am praying for their fund raising and impact on the lives of those called to preach and teach.
3-Mar Ep 2:13 But now in Christ  Jesus you who formerly were far off have been brought near by the blood of Christ. Lord I am praying for the holiday season.  That you might be proclaimed anew in our country.  Help me to celebrate the birth of Jesus and live as one changed by His gift.
4-Mar Ep 4:1 Therefore I, the  prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, Change me Lord.  Change me today and everyday.  I am praying for our flight to Greece that everything will go smoothly and well.
5-Mar Ep 4:17 So this I say, and affirm together with the Lord, that you walk no longer just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their mind, This journey is a journey with Paul.  Help me to see what Paul saw.  Soften my heart and help me to see what you see Lord.
6-Mar Ph 1:3-4 I thank my God in all my remembrance of you, always offering prayer with joy in my every prayer for you all, People count with Jesus.  I am praying for my fellow travelers, the people we meet and my family at home.
7-Mar Ph 1:9-10 And this I pray, that your love may abound still more and more in real knowledge and all discernment, so that you may approve the things that are excellent, in order to be sincere and blameless until the day of Christ; Focus is critical for me to grow in Christ.  Today I will focus on the opportunities that I have to help others including my family at home.
8-Mar Ph 1:12 Now I want you to know, brethren, that my circumstances have turned out for the greater progress of the gospel, I choose how I see my life.  I am valuable to the Lord and my life is important in His plan.  Guide me today and help me to listen and do as You say.
9-Mar Ph 1:21 For to me, to live is Christ and to die is gain. This world is not my home.  Every day I am one step closer to home.  I want to know you better today Lord.
10-Mar Ph 2:9-10 For this reason also, God highly exalted Him, and bestowed on Him the name which is above every name, so that at the name of Jesus EVERY KNEE WILL BOW, of those who are in heaven and on earth and under the earth, I want to understand the impact of Paul in the ancient world.  It is a direct link to me from the ancient to the modern through my faith.  What a wonderful Lord I serve.
11-Mar Lk 2:1-2 Now in those days a decree went out from Caesar Augustus, that a census be taken of all the  inhabited earth. This was the first census taken while Quirinius  was governor of Syria. Christmas again.  So quick.  And yet I pray for memories of family and friends at Christmas and new memories I will make this year.
12-Mar Lk 2:4 Joseph also went up from Galilee, from the city of Nazareth, to Judea, to the city of David which is called Bethlehem, because he  was of the house and family of David, I am going to Greece for a purpose.  To see the ancient world and where Paul ministered.  I want to see how to apply that to my life right here.  I am praying for the poor and homeless today.
13-Mar Lk 2:7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son; and she wrapped Him in cloths, and laid Him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn. He was an outsider.  A man of sorrows.  Help me to know the love that he has for me even when I was one of those that ostracized Him.
14-Mar Lk 2:8-9 In the same region there were some shepherds staying out in the fields and keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord suddenly stood  before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them; and they were terribly frightened. I sometimes am afraid to think about how the Lord wants to use me.  What if?  Today I want to think about how you would like for me to change Lord.
15-Mar Lk 2:15 When the angels had gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds began saying to one another, "Let us go straight to Bethlehem then, and see this thing that has happened which the Lord has made known to us." One of my reasons for going to Greece is to better understand the Bible.  Teach me Lord.  Bless our hotels and each one of our meals.
16-Mar Lk 2:16-18 So they came in a hurry and found their way to Mary and Joseph, and the baby as He lay in the manger. When they had seen this, they made known the statement which had been told them about this Child. And all who heard it wondered at the things which were told them by the shepherds. Belief in Jesus is a personal choice.  No grandchildren in the family.    Shine in me and through me Lord that I might be a positive influence for you.
17-Mar Jo 11:48 "If we let Him go on like this, all men will believe in Him, and the Romans will come and take away both our place and our nation." The world is never far from the point I exercise my faith.  Evil seeks to contain the Gospel.  Help me Lord to share.
18-Mar Rom 1:1 Paul, a bond-servant of Christ Jesus, called as an apostle, set apart for the gospel of God, I'm looking forward to seeing Mars Hill.  In front of the greatest minds in the world Paul fearlessly proclaimed his faith.
19-Mar Rom 1:2-3 which He promised  beforehand through His prophets in the holy Scriptures, concerning His Son, who was born of  a descendant of David according to the flesh, Father be with us today as we travel.  I am praying for safety and that everything works together smoothly and well.
20-Mar Rom 1:4 who was declared the Son of God with power by the resurrection from the dead, according to the Spirit of holiness, Jesus Christ our Lord, I am praying for good weather and good health today. What a joy to arrive in Athens and travel in this ancient country.
21-Mar Ac 18:1 - After these things he left Athens and went to Corinth. Help me not to dwell on failure or rejection.  Keep us safe, watch over our physical well being and open my eyes.
22-Mar 1Th 2:2 - but after we had already suffered and been mistreated in Philippi, as you know, we had the boldness in our God to speak to you the gospel of God amid much opposition. The Gospel message will always create anxiety and opposition from the world.  Make yourself evident today Father.  Bless our food, our travel and our Bible study.
23-Mar 1Co 1:17 - For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not in cleverness of speech, so that the cross of Christ would not be made void. Keep me from being an obstacle to someone that is seeking to know Jesus.  Encourage us and give us joy in our hearts.
24-Mar 1Co 9:12 - If others share the right over you, do we not more? Nevertheless, we did not use this right, but we endure all things so that we will cause no hindrance to the gospel of Christ. I need to grow in Christlikeness.  If I am going to be like Jesus I will suffer.  I need endurance.  Today care for my family back home.  Guard our paths and bless our conversation and prayers.
25-Mar 1Co 1:22 - For indeed Jews ask for signs and Greeks search for wisdom; Lord I just want to know you.  Be my peace today.  Help me remember what I am learning and how to put it together.
26-Mar 1Co 1:30 - But by His doing you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, and righteousness and sanctification, and redemption, Jesus loves me.  Jesus values my life.  As I prepare to return Lord make this trip a valuable experience that will equip me to make others valuable.
27-Mar 1Co 2:4-5 - and my message and my preaching were not in persuasive words of wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power, so that your faith would not rest on the wisdom of men, but on the power of God. Lord take us home safe.  Help us make all our connections timely, safely and with significant comfort.  Remind me of what you wanted me to learn and help me put it to work when I get home.  Jesus help me deal with every problem I face.
28-Mar Eph 1:7-8a - In Him  we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace which He lavished on us.  Lord lavish your love, joy and peace on me today.  Help me recover from jet lag.  Replay the trip in my mind and heart.
29-Mar Col 1:9 - For this reason also, since the day we heard of it, we have not ceased to pray for you and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all spiritual wisdom and understanding, Jesus there is someone I need to pray for today.  Equip me to be a helper.  Encourage me in prayer.  I want to know you better.
30-Mar Col 3:16 - Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you, with all wisdom teaching and admonishing one another with psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with thankfulness in your hearts to God. Make me a better person.  Help me to change.  Guide me to stop doing those things that hurt You.
