Word Pictures #6 from
Santa Fe

Bishop's Lodge
The Spanish Market was in the Plaza in Santa Fe on Saturday and
Sunday. It is an arts and craft fair of artisans from all over New Mexico. We really
enjoyed looking at the paintings, wood work, weavings and other types of crafts. A 14 year
old weaver, Elias Vigil from Chimayo really caught our eye. His work was superb and if you
go to the Spanish Market at the end of July sometime look for him.
We went to church on Sunday morning at Rodeo Road Baptist Church.
After the church service we headed north through the center of town up Bishops Lodge
Road to Bishops Lodge. Sunday brunch at the Bishops Lodge Restaurant is almost
required when visiting Santa Fe. It is simply spectacular, offering more than two dozen
entrees. The entrees are a mixture of contemporary Southwestern and nouveau American food.
They are all expertly prepared. In addition to the entrees, there is a bread, fruit,
cheese and cold cuts table, with a multitude of offerings. I had to choose the food that I
ate carefully because there were two dozen dessert offerings and they were all well
prepared and worth a taste.
Bishops Lodge has a relaxed and casual atmosphere and is
authentic southwestern inside and out. Its old, rustic and exotic. We felt
important, ate too much, stayed too long and had too much fun. But we endured it because
we were on vacation.
