Wandering to the Back
Street Bistro
We like to do things without a schedule on vacation and we did
that in Santa Fe. The Paseo de Peralta encircles the outer edge of the downtown and is a
great place to ride, looking at the buildings and people enroute to somewhere else, like
Canyon Road. In the old days Canyon Road was an Indian foot path leading east from the
downtown area where the Santa Fe trail ended. Canyon Road became an art colony in the
early part of this century. Today it is similar to Royal Street, with art galleries lining
both sides of the road as it runs east from the downtown area towards the mountains. We
enjoy visiting Judys, a dress shop on Canyon Road. She is an original and so is her
dress shop and we like to stop and look.
Wandering around makes you hungry and we did our share of
hungering. Seems like about the time that we finished with one meal it was time for
another. The Back Street Bistro just fit the bill for lunch one day. It is located on a
side street just south of the Paseo de Peralta. Their Caesar salad, Three Cheese sandwich
on wheat and Tuna sandwich were fresh, and delicious. We shared the Sweet Pepper soup and
it was perfect. The atmosphere is vibrant and colorful, the wait staff are attentive and
the price for the meal including tip was under $20. We left refreshed and full and about
two hours later began talking about supper.
