Santa Fe Travel Diary

Planting a Tree

Santa Fe was far away but close. It was a half-day getting there and a half-day getting back on Southwest Air. We had planned for nine months for the trip and were careful what we spent and where we stayed. A vacation budget is why we scoured the area for good, inexpensive places to eat. You will always be tempted to splurge on vacation, but unless you are rich, don’t.

An ancient Chinese proverb says that the best time to plant a tree was twenty years ago. The second best time is today. My goal in Santa Fe was to plant some new habits and new ideas that would guide me during the coming year. Vacations are for personal evaluation, reflection, and renewal. You can set aside extra time with the Lord, with your family and with yourself.

Back Street Bistro for lunch was a good idea. David Jacoby has been at this location for two years. He has built a strong lunch trade that loves his sandwiches, salads and soups. The soups are superb. We tasted a cup of the Sweetpepper Bisque, Senegalese, Strawberry and Hungarian mushroom. We also had a half 3-Cheese and a half Turkey sandwich. The lunch was filling and inexpensive.
