Santa Fe Travel Diary Spanish Market John 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. In a society that worships technology and efficiency, an event that extols people and relationships is refreshing. The Spanish Market, a community art show, is a family event. It is held in Santa Fe, NM in July and December each year. As you walk thru the Market you see many small groups of people chatting and enjoying each others company. The Spanish Market strives to honor the history and traditions of the Hispanic culture of New Mexico. It encourages folks to remember the cultural legacies of Santa Fe and New Mexicos Hispanic past. The art exhibits include paintings, sculptures, weavings, furniture, forged iron, jewelry, relief carvings, and quite a number of other art forms. Much of the art has religious implications. There are over 200 art exhibitors. The Plaza in Santa Fe and the side streets were full. We were particularly impressed by a young weaver, 15 year old Elias Vigil. His work is superb. We talked with him and his family. Nice folks.
