American Chinese food has become very popular in the United States. One visit to the Five Happiness Chinese Restaurant fully justifies this popularity. The restaurant location is on one of the busiest streets in New Orleans, South Carrollton Avenue at Mid-City but the little extra maneuvering to get to the restaurant is worth the effort.

The dining room is bright and cheery, with a seating area that is comfortable and spacious. The service is efficient, courteous and quick. The wait staff is focused on providing you with good food.

The menu is lengthy, and every dish I have had was tasty and good. I would recommend that you try their family menu, which gives a complete meal at a reasonable price. On the family menu, you are served a fresh egg roll, fried rice and one of ten entrée choices. The egg roll is an important element in a good Chinese meal.

Personally, I love soup and always get soup with my meal. No one makes better Wonton soup than Five Happiness. Their Hot and Sour soup is spicy and yummy.

My favorite entrees include General’s Chicken, Sweet and Sour chicken and Chicken in Hot Garlic Sauce. Any one of these entrees with Shrimp Fried Rice is a dining experience. When there are enough people with you to order one of each of these three entrees on the family meal it just doesn’t get any better.

Five Happiness is a great place to enjoy American Chinese food. Oh yes, if you happen to catch their lunch specials Monday thru Saturday, don’t plan a lot of work that afternoon. When you visit, tell them you appreciate their good restaurant. They are a real plus in a great food city, New Orleans, our home.
