Deanie's Seafood
1713 Lake Avenue
Metairie, LA

Bucktown is more than one hundred years old. It began as a string of hunting and fishing camps lining the 17th Street Canal in the East End of Jefferson Parish. This is a place of many violent confrontations with government agencies, turbulent storms and colorful characters.

It has picturesque, ramshackle buildings that attest to the wear and tear of the years and the elements. Until recently, the 17th Street Canal in Bucktown was home to more than one hundred shrimp boats.

Bucktown has some of the best fresh seafood markets in Orleans and Jefferson Parish. One of the oldest retail purveyors of boiled seafood, Deanie's Seafood Market is located in the heart of Bucktown at 1713 Lake Avenue.

Next door is their restaurant where they serve some of the best-fried and boiled seafood in the area. Deanie's Seafood Restaurant is known as the "Home of the Giant Seafood Platter." The Seafood Platter has shrimp, oysters, catfish, soft-shell crabs, and crawfish balls. It will serve a family of four.   Their Po-Boys are dressed to order.

Seasonal seafood, especially crawfish,is prepared well and priced right. I like the spicy hot new potatoes that are served when you are seated. The blue cheese dressing for their salads is outstanding.  Oh yes, save room for their coconut-almond custard bread pudding. We've been there just for this dessert.

Deanie's is a place for casual dress. It is an escape from the daily grind. We like the drive, the view of the lake and the good food at inexpensive prices.
