Saint Peter in
Gallicantu
St. Peter in
Gallicantu-the place of the rooster crowing is perched on the eastern edge of Mount Zion.
This is the place identified in Mark 14:53. A Roman road, an ancient stepped way,
climbs the eastern side of Mount Zion from the Pool of Siloam down in the valley and
passes to the left of the church. Caiaphas imprisoned and interrogated Jesus here. Peter
denied Christ in the courtyard. The Roman soldiers took Jesus from here to Pontius Pilate.

The church enshrines structures that date to 37 BC. There are rock
cut structures, cellars, cisterns, and stables. Some archaeologists disagree with
this location but if this isnt it you could hit where it is with a rock.
This is the place where the divine sacrifice began. Jesus was brought here from
the Mount of Olives. He delivered himself into the hands of his persecutors. They began
his cruel mistreatment and Jesus began his perfect response. His first shedding of blood
took place here. He was denied here. His pain and agony was sharpened here. The nation
turned its back on the savior here.
Forgiveness began at St. Peter in
Gallicantu. I was there with the Sanhedrin. The forgiveness they needed for their sin was
the same forgiveness I need for my sin. Every single person that comes into the family of
God comes individually. Each must repent of his or her sin and ask for forgiveness from
Christ. This is a change from the human to the divine ordained of God. It is the
only way.
