The Temple Mount

Herod the Great developed the current site of the Temple Mount. It is trapezoidal in shape and covers 1,500,000 square feet. This location is the heart of Jerusalem for both Jews and Muslims. The original temple built by King Solomon was believed to have covered only one/half the area of the current site.

King David chose the site of the Temple in II Samuel 24 when he confronted the Death Angel at Araunah the Jebusites’s threshing floor at the summit of Mount Moriah. This is the same Mount Moriah that Abraham came to with Isaac. David renewed Abraham’s original covenant by directing Solomon to build God’s Temple at this place.

We are called to many covenant relationships. David followed through on his promise by appointing Solomon king. He skipped over another family member and followed through on his promise. Solomon followed through on his promise. He built the Temple where and how David instructed.

Help me Lord to do your will today. Not what I want but what you want.
