  Paris Travel Diary Paris 98 Eiffel Tower
How do we become identified with certain things? Paris is represented by the Eiffel Tower. Can anyone go to Paris and fail to see the Eiffel Tower?
Time is a part of it. The Eiffel Tower was built by Gustav Eiffel for the 1889 expo. This 10,000 ton dark metal structure was abhored by the Parisians. Today, 110 years later it is revered by Parisians and the world.
The Eiffel Tower has acquired a beauty that few buildings match. The park in front of the Tower with its manicured trees and shrubs provides an appropriate place to sit and admire its beauty and presence. We observed the large number of Parisians that were enjoying the Tower's park. This was their place.
We took a lot of pictures of the Eiffel Tower. None of the pictures captured the importance of this structure. It is an unchangeable icon in a world of massive change. When you visit the Eiffel Tower, you touch the last one hundred years right now. It's still working. It's still being admired. This was a memorable experience that is etched in my mind. We don't remember a lot about history. Many aren't touched by it in an emotional way. The Eiffel Tower is history today.
