The Louvre

The unknown can be very intimidating.  We experienced this intimidation first-hand when we were trying to get into the Louvre.

The lines to get tickets to go in were long and not moving.  We were told that a museum pass let you bypass the lines.  We looked for a place to buy the pass for several hours and finally gave up.   Tomorrow we would come back.

The next day we went to the Tourist Office on the Champs Elysees.  We discovered that they sold museum passes and we bought them.

When we went back to the Louvre, it took us an hour to find the special place, door #93, that you went to to by-pass the lines.  Finally, we were in.

The Louvre is more than you can imagine.  I'm not sure of the French expression but in English it's "wow".

First of all it's huge.   Second it's totally awesome.  The French have a way of making things beautiful and the Louvre is gorgeous.  Wow hardly explains the magnificience of the sculptures and paintings.  Mona Lisa, Venus de Milo, The Dying Slave, Code of Hammurabi, Mari tablets, and many other critical pieces from several civilizations.  The collection is immense and overwhelming.  Wow.

The Louvre occupied two of our days in Paris.  When we finished, it felt like we were just starting.   Someday, we will spend more time in the Louvre.
